Hi there! My name is Deirdre Smith, ADHD Coach, Professional Organizer and owner of Happy Place Organizing.
At the age of 40, I was diagnosed with ADHD - Inattentive Type and I was so relieved. There was finally an explanation for all the things that I thought were wrong with me. I was trying to live a life not suited to my brain's wiring.
I dove into books looking for solutions to help me manage my life. As an at-home mom with two kids in a new house, I was a hot mess. There were (and still are) lots of tricks and strategies for getting organized. It was the staying organized part that seemed to always allude me. But I figured out that piece, pulled myself together and I started a home organizing business.
Many of my clients also had ADHD and I was thrilled to be able to help them and make their lives easier. But it was in the discussions about how ADHD impacted them that I felt most alive. It's in the discovery of and understanding of your brain where all the real change is made. That's the good stuff.
Becoming an ADHD Coach was calling to me, and I finally dove into learning when the pandemic first started. I joined ADDCA (ADD Coach Academy) and worked my way through the Basic Coach Training, Family Coaching Program and the Advanced Coach Training Program. As a life-long learner, I stay current with the ADHD science through webinars, workshops and attending the annual ADHD Conference. Additionally, I'm certified through ADDCA as an AACC (ADDCA Certified Associate Coach).
Now I'm an ADHD Coach and it's all about the good stuff!
When not coaching or learning more about ADHD, I'm spending time with my husband and 2 sons (when they're home from college) and our 2 cats. I love to travel, go to PSU football games, stand-up comedy and shows, and I'm obsessed with crocheting.
